Just a quick note to all you coffee shop authors ...
This has been one long winter! There, enough said on that subject.
I can only imagine that most, on these northern lands, have not made it out to their favourite coffee shop to write, as often as originally planned (not that we are talking about the weather).
I wanted to report that I have more than made up for that grounding we all suffered (no comment on it remember ... spring is here!). I had the unbelievable fortune of getting to spend the better part of the last few weeks in a writing residency in the middle of nowhere doing little else but hibernating (not that it was winter, don’t get me started), and writing ... writing ... writing.
For anyone who can take the time, being granted a few weeks of residency in Eastend, Saskatchewan at the Wallace Stegner House, to simply be tucked away to create is an amazing gift to one’s writer-self. (http://www.stegnerhouse.ca/)
After last summer’s 10 day’s with my manuscript (ahhhh ... summer ....), at a fiction workshop at the amazing Sage Hill writing Experience, I have had little time to spend with my fictional characters haunting my busy freelancer’s desk for the last season (don’t mention it or it might show up – think summer ... think summer). This past few weeks here alone at Stegner House I feel like my novel characters and I got to go on a holiday together and the best part was no one else and was invited.
I am happy to report that we have had an amazing time, learned so much about each other, shared the little house together with no infighting (okay a few times a little angst over some dialogue misunderstanding or a tiny resistance here or there to the plot path – on both our parts, author and characters alike).
Not only is there more light in the day with spring upon us, but there is more light at the end of the writing tunnel for my novel, SHUNNED, ready to hit the trail running!
Did I say running? I meant snow shoeing ... have you not seen the weather ... Southern Saskatchewan has been one big grey sky bubble for 2 weeks ... saw the sun for the first time yesterday ... if it wasn’t for the painting on the wall here I wouldn’t even have known there were hills outside my window ... or a view for that matter!
STOP!! Stop, I told you we were not talking about it – winter that is – as WINTER has left the building!
Happy spring writing everyone!

Pain
It pains me to say the cherry trees are blossoming here on the coast...
Sounds like you had a great time at the writing residency, and GOOD LUCK with SHUNNED, love the title.
