coffee shop introduction
Deciding it was time for me to introduce myself, to the manager of the coffee shop, I have nominated, as my place to drink coffee, and write a few chapters. I introduced myself to the manager, of the Starbucks, in my town. He tells me, that this was all new to him, and he had never been approached with such an endeavour. I explained that there was no need for them to be alarmed at the fact, that I would come and write a few chapters of my book, that was entered in the writing contest. I asked if he wanted me to put up their web-site or mention on my blog, whenst, he shrugged and said, they didn't have one. Fine. I ordered myself a large coffee, and sat down, near the window, on the right side of the cafe, only two other people in there, standing waiting for their coffee. I settle in, picking up their copy of the Vancouver Sun, getting into reading a little, when two women walk in, settling in, at the seat in front of me. I don't know if this includes, eves dropping, but I couldn't help but hone in on their conversation. One of them was more excited than the other, doing most of the talking. From what I gathered, they were both empty nesters, the talkative one, taking out a small hand held album, with pictures of her family. As she showed her friend the pictures, she told a story with each of them, her voice going from one octave to another, laughing, her friend nodding her head, interested in the stories, the woman talks on, between gulps of her coffee. Feeling like I am doing something wrong, listening in, a couple with two little girls, around four and five years old walk in, the woman with another, what looked like a newborn, in the crook of her arm. She walks by my table, with her arm wrapped around the baby, her arm twisted in a swing tpye position. I can't help but notice, with what ease, she holds the newborn baby. She looks my way, when she notices that I am smiling at her, admiring her newborn baby. The look that she returns is one of, don't look at my baby, or one of, is she a baby snatcher? Fine, I look away, back to my newspaper, when three girls enter the coffee shop, all pretty girls, all dressed in jeans, probably college girls, I think, they order their coffee and leave together. All in all, it was a good experience. Now I know why, the coffee shop comes into play, many ideas, surface in my head. I leave, nodding my head to the girls behind the counter, leaving them a tip, in their see through square, plexiglass box. See you later, I say, as they all watch me leave. the writer, yeah, it sounds good to me. greetings.

the man who spends his entire day, reading classics
I'll bet there is a good story, behind the man, what life he has lived, maybe a retired doctor, or who knows, maybe a ..................all of a sudden, all the lights went out, in my house, o.k. the power just went off, mmmmm, I say, what really happened there, anyway, getting back to the man, I can think of a bunch of things about him, he's accustomed to the good life, for starters, sounds good to me, cheers, airlover
coffee shops
If you're writing in a coffee shop, or a library, where someone wants more explanation about this contest, and their part in it, please contact either Randal or me and we'll speakwith the managers directly to answer any questions. There's no intention that the coffee shop will have any obligation in this, other than allowing you to spend time in their shop writing for the contest. It is hoped, however, that they'll support your efforts through their encouragement, and maybe eventually receive some promotion for their shop, as a result.

Coffee shop inspiration
I agree, I find a lot of inspiration at my little coffee shop, from staff and patrons.
A people watcher...
only in a 'non-stalking' sort of way! I love it!
ME TOO!!! I'm not an author
ME TOO!!! I'm not an author but I can see how people watching could help inspire character sketches. People are such interesting creatures.
thank you, very much.
I really appreciate your input. for now, airlover

I hear good conversations too. There's a man who spends his entire day reading classics. Occassionally we have discussions about the classics and the authors or history behind the stories. What a way to live - reading classic novels all day.
Esquires gave me a free mug with their local - I already cracked the handle - boohoo. But now it has character!!!
